Privacy Policy

Ghostreader is a reading companion. You bring your books, papers, and articles; the app reads alongside you. This policy explains what we collect, how it’s used, and the choices you have.

The short version: your library is yours. We don’t sell your data, we don’t show ads, and we never use the content you read to train AI models.

Information we collect

• Account information. When you sign in, our authentication provider (Auth0) gives us your email address and display name so we can create and secure your account.
• Your reading materials. The books, PDFs, papers, and articles you import — including their text — are stored so you can read them, search them, and use AI features on them.
• Your annotations. Highlights, notes, and the books you’ve chosen to chat with.
• Reading activity. Basic usage such as time spent reading and reading streaks, used to power your stats.

We do not knowingly collect payment card details — subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store, and we never see your card information.

How we use your information

• To provide the core reading experience and sync your library across your devices.
• To power AI features — explanations, chat grounded in your sources, connections across your library, and read-aloud narration.
• To show you your reading stats and maintain your account.

AI processing & service providers

To deliver these features, relevant text from your library is sent to trusted processors solely to generate a result for you. They act on our instructions and do not use your content to train their models:

We only send the text needed to fulfill the specific request you make.

What we don’t do

• We don’t sell or rent your personal information.
• We don’t use your library, highlights, or chats to train AI models.
• We don’t show advertising.

Retention & your choices

• Delete a book at any time and its text, highlights, and related data are removed.
• Export your highlights and notes whenever you like.
• Delete your account and associated data by contacting us at the address below.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, and access is restricted to what’s needed to operate the service. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Children

Ghostreader is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date.
